I am currently working on three books. One is for UK Labour Party members who are dismayed by the economic policies of the Starmer/Reeves government. Another is for Elon Musk on money. A third is about the economics of climate change, and has the working title of “How Economists Will Destroy Capitalism”.
I’ve been trying to complete the first two before working on the third, which will to a large degree be my book manuscript Rebuilding Economics from the Top Down, but in reverse order: it will start from William Nordhaus’s delusional nonsense on the economics of climate change, and then explain how it is that such intellectual garbage was not only published, but given the accolade of a “Nobel” Prize.
Unfortunately, my time is constrained by also having to write lectures for my online Rebel Economics course, and for the University of Amsterdam, where I am now a visiting scholar. I had hoped to release the Reeves book in December and the Musk book in January—and it’s now mid-February.
So, to get my analysis out into circulation, I’ve decided to take the same approach I did with Rebuilding, of releasing a chapter each week on Substack and Patreon. I’ll also experiment with publishing it as a series of Tweets as well—to take Musk seriously on the role he believes Twitter (which I believe he calls X) should have, of being the world’s news service.
I’ll start with the Musk book, since, given the rapidity with which Musk and Trump are implementing cutbacks on US government spending, it’s the most pressing to get into circulation.
Please share these posts widely. I’ll put up the first chapter of the Musk book today. It has the title Money and Macroeconomics from First Principles, for Elon Musk and Other Engineers.
It's looking as though Reeves & Starmer won't be around very long so you'd arguably best be getting on with that one if you want it to be topical.
