I have just completed a very productive and enjoyable six months research project at the Budapest Centre for Long-Term Sustainability (https://bc4ls.com/). It was the first substantial "sabbatical" I have had since the 6-month sabbatical from the then University of Western Sydney in 1999-2000, during which I wrote the first edition of Debunking Economics.
This time, I wrote Rebuilding Economics from the Top Down, which will in due course be published by the BC4LS and its publishing partner the Pallas Athene Publishing House (https://pallasathenekiado.hu/). However, this could take quite some time to be available, given the number of books commissioned by BC4LS, and some of the issues I explore in this book--especially the economics of climate change--are very pressing.
So, with the agreement of BC4LS, I am making the manuscript available to my supporters here: since you are already supporting me financially when you could get my posts for free, I am confident that you will purchase the book when it is available.
I encourage you to share this post , but since I don't want to undermine the book's sales, please don't share this PDF: if any of your contacts wish to see it, tell them to subscribe here for access.
If you want to cite this work, please use:
Keen, S. (2024). Rebuilding Economics from the Top Down. Budapest, Budapest Centre for Long-Term Sustainability & Pallas Athene Publishing House.
I can't be sure that it will be published in 2024--which is a major reason why I am releasing the manuscript now--but hopefully that will be the case. When it is published, it will be reasonably priced: previous books in this series were priced at US$10-12, though at over twice the length of others in the series, it may cost as much as US$30.
Even if it is $30, the book will be good value, since the series is printed on high-gloss paper in a 4-colour (CMYK) press. It will look magnificent. I'm very much looking forward to seeing it in print myself.
