Email you may have received from Dr. Keen <steve@profstevekeen.me>
It's not spam, but it is a bit misleading
Firstly, it is not spam and my account has not been hacked. But it is poorly worded, and may imply that I want supporters to move from Substack to GoFundMe.
This is emphatically not the case.
The email originates from Jordan, who is mentioned in it, and he runs a marketing firm that approached my last year to start a set of online lectures. I have done that, and they have gone very well, with over 200 people signing up so far. A very lively community is thriving away there with in depth conversations, and the original 7 lectures I offered have grown to 13, plus 3 live workshops.
Dealing with Jordan is a bit like having an overenthusiastic puppy. He has great ideas and means well, but often you find your pillows are shredded all over the bedroom.
His intention was to alert you all to a GoFundMe campaign he has established that he'd both like you to donate to, and to promote. I can say with 100% confidence that the funds raised from this venture will go to me. He has been absolutely ethical in his dealings with me. Though he's a (what, Millenial?) marketer at 23, he's also fundamentally a decent and ethical young man. I wouldn't be maintaining my relationship with him if that wasn't the case.
But I do have to replace the occasional shredded pillow.
This is the text of the email below.
I just got to Budapest. I also just got Covid... (a very good start to my 6 month research trip here!) I'm recovering and doing my best to stay safe. I'm 70 years old after all. In the meantime, my research partner Jordan took the liberty of moving all our donations to GoFundMe. This of course goes to making REAL economics (and common sense) go mainstream, exposing bad math by bad actors, and creating a world governed by truth - for once. If you feel you're on the right side of history too, and want to make real change before it's too late - you don't even have to donate - but please share this link.

The earth, the economy, and the people within it - all rely on this. We need to act with the urgency the science demands. Best, Steve
