But seriously folks…
As if things weren’t difficult enough, this little bundle of joy dropped into my lap last night. It’s on an infinite loop too: I stopped it after 20 cycles this morning.
There is a Windows procedure to put the machine into Recovery mode: turn the computer on and off three times, holding the power switch down for ten seconds on each power off.
It doesn’t work.
Just for fun, this happened the day before I leave for two months in Europe, where I’m the keynote speaker at four conferences and am giving a four day workshop on modeling economic dynamics as well.
I hope I can get this fixed today; it’ll take an external boot device, and hopefully it’s something simple like the SSD program Drive needing replacement. If not, I’ll be rushing around Sydney computer shops looking for large screen 4K performance laptops.
So my apologies everyone, but between this, a PET scan as a follow up to my prostate cancer biopsy, a 24 hour flight to Amsterdam, selling my flat there, and trying to reinstall all my software on whatever computer I have next week before my keynote in Warsaw on June 9, I’m going to be out of circulation for the next week.
