I haven’t published a post here (apart from my podcast with Phil Dobbie) for a few weeks. There are several reasons, not least the circus of Musk’s falling out with Trump—and we’re still in the middle of that act.
I had just finished writing a book for Musk on economics before the Trump-Musk spat began, and … it was just deflating. I put in all this work to attempt to influence someone with Trump’s ear, and suddenly he was holding another bit of Trump’s anatomy.
Likewise, I had stopped work on a book for opponents of the nouveau austerity that Starmer and Reeves had imposed on the UK to write the book for Musk… Do I return to that one, or do I work on the commissioned book that both these projects delayed, for Polity Books, with the working title of How Economists Will Destroy Capitalism.
At the same time, I need to produce videos for YouTube, both to get my ideas into wider circulation, and to promote the online course I’m now giving on economics.
I’ve decided:
To publish the PDF of the Musk book here—which I’ll link in the next post—while a supporter also produces a properly formatted book for sale via Amazon Kindle;
To start work on How Economists Will Destroy Capitalism, and to post chapters here as I write them—though for copyright reasons, these chapters will only be available to paying supporters; and
To produce a post a week on the topic of the YouTube video I also produce once a week. The next one will be on Ted Cruz’s call for the Federal Reserve to stop paying interest on Reserve balances.
The first post, with the Musk manuscript in PDF format, will go up later today. Hopefully I’ll also finish the Cruz post and video.
"...and suddenly he was holding another bit of Trump’s anatomy" - that's hilarious :)
